FORT BELKNAP RESERVATION

The Fort Belknap Reservation is the home of the Fort Belknap Indian Commnunity, which consist of two distinct Northern Nations. The Gros-Ventre and the Assiniboine tribes. Both tribes are of a total differant Linguistic arena. The Gros-Ventre name is from the french and has really no significant meaning to the tribal member. The proper name for the Gros-Ventre is the Whiteclay people. The Assiniboine is also of French origin and also has no meaning to the tribal members. Nakota is another name that is used by present day member.

The Fort Belknap Reservation is located in north central montana about 36 miles from the canadian border. The reservation encompases approxiamately 638,000 acres of land of which 10,000 acres belong to the Bison project. etc. etc.
