PORQUPINE QUILLWORK: MEDICINE FYLING QUILLING SOCIETY

The art of putting quills on Brain tanned buckskin is all but lost in todays world of high tech. Yet there are a very few Indian artist that do still enjoy creating a work of art as you see here. This piece of work was created by the late quillworker Rosella Woundedeye Rider, a full blood Northern Cheyenne. She left for the spirit world on 12 November 1997 after fighting a losing battle with cancer. Her imediate family are still doing her work and enjoy teaching others the art of quilling.

In 1995 Rosella started the Medicine Flying quilling society. The uniqueness of this society is the membership. All the students that were a part of her classes during her short period here are the constituency of this organization. She had the opportunity to teach classes in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana and Wyoming.

Today the Family of Rosella W. Rider carry on her legacy and are offering their works of arts to the public. We will only do custom work as the detail of the art form is time comsuming and exacting. There are a variety of articals that we produce. Moccasins, Pipebags, vests, handbags, dance bags, leggings, cuffs, armbands, belts, etc. Just give us your dimensions and we can work from there.
